Ward 73 councillor concerned about police vigilance

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said the matter was brought to their attention and management has opened a departmental investigation.

Ward 73 Clr Sinethemba Matiwane has shared his concerns about a shortage of patrol vehicles in the area.

“We have a shortage of SAPS vehicles in Benoni and last night (August 12) at 6.46pm I saw a Benoni SAPS vehicle parked outside a gym for over an hour,” said Matiwane.

After approaching the Benoni SAPS for a reason for the parked vehicle, the councillor was told the matter would be addressed.

“I was told the matter would be addressed for a proper investigation.”

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said the matter was brought to their attention and management has opened a departmental investigation.

“In general, there are thefts out of motor vehicles that occur around gyms in Benoni,” said Sekele.

“Perpetrators take goods, such as car radios and spare tyres.

“Robberies, however, occur all around Benoni.”
