EMPD seize explosives, arrest suspect

"The suspect alleged the items belonged to her husband."

On August 19, EMPD Tracing Unit officers apprehended a young female found in possession of explosives after receiving a tip-off.

According to EMPD media liaison officer Kobeli Mokheseng the arrest took place at 7am at a house in Akashakaruli Street in Daveyton.

“After the tip-off was received the unit’s officers arrived at a house situated in Chief Luthuli where a 27-year-old female occupant was found in possession of two bags containing 215 strips of stick explosives,” said Mokheseng.

The items were then confiscated.

“The suspect alleged the items belonged to her husband.

“Attempts were made in locating the husband but he was nowhere to be found.

“The suspect was detained at the Crystal Park Police Station and charged with possession of explosives, under the explosive Act.

“She is expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.”
