Apricot Tree will celebrate birthday with Spring Fest

The school’s classrooms are kept to a maximum of seven learners per teacher, which, in turn, ensures that each child receives the best quality of education available.

Northmead-based NPO, Apricot Tree, turns a decade old this year and will be celebrating in style at the Benoni Northerns Baseball Club, in Northmead.

“Apricot Tree is a non-profit centre for learners from the ages of three to 25 with multiple disabilities,” said principal Abby Reason.

“The festival will be a family fun day out with food and craft stalls, beer tent, craft beer and gin (Gin and Macaron pairing), live music, children’s entertainment, cars and bikes and 9th Benoni Scouts.
“Our learners will be there and will perform a small show.”

This is the school’s first festival and they hope to make it a success so they can turn the event into an annual one.

Tickets are R60 for adults and R30 for children and children under three are free.

The centre is committed to striving towards providing the highest quality service enabling children to reach their maximum potential.

“We are very excited to be celebrating our 10-year anniversary this year by having a Spring Fest on September 28,” Reason explained.

“This festival needs to be a success so that we can make this an annual fund-raiser raising funds for our beautiful learners’ future.”

Reason said their young adults are getting older and they are in desperate need of a respite centre or at least a functioning vocational programme where they can be part of the community.
