“Since then, a substantial number of children have moved through our home and grown into responsible adults,” said Rev Marais Strydom.

“The local house committee, in cooperation with the social worker and staff from the main campus, strives to assist our school-leavers to find their feet in the outside world once they leave the protection of the home.

“One of our offspring is now teaching in Japan after obtaining her BEd degree at the University of Pretoria.”

Strydom said to celebrate the auspicious occasion, the theme was a High Tea for Women.

“Women who attended the function came from as far as Standerton and Pretoria,” he said.

“I delivered a motivational talk and Laantie le Roux delivered a talk in which she compared life to a zipline experience – ziplining from one platform to the another with God as our guide.

“She was assisted by Pauline Theart and her husband, Dean Barbour, who treated us with their singing talent.

“I was also the MC for the day and Louise Osmond, an actress in Getroud met Rugby, assisted with these duties.

“Several donated paintings were auctioned, making it a worthwhile fund-raiser.”

Strydom said the Abraham Kriel Bambanani Children’s Home in Airfield is currently occupied by 12 young girls who attend various schools in Benoni.

“Our challenge is to see these beautiful children stepping into their own space after leaving school.

“To keep our house sustainable, donations on a regular basis are needed.

“We wish to thank our donors who helped us during the past 21 years to maintain our dreams and uphold our mission to offer our girls a second chance in life.”
