EMPD arrests one for drug possession

The suspect was detained at the Benoni Police Station and charged with possession and dealing in narcotics. He is expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.

On July 14 around 11.40am on Ampthill Street, the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) handcuffed a suspected drug dealer when Mandrax tablets and nyaope were found on him.

“The arrest was as a result of a tip-off by members of the community in the area,” said EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago.

“The DEU officers arrested the 35-year-old suspect when found in possession of three full Mandrax tablets, one half Mandrax and seven ziplock bags of nyaope with the total street value of R2 000.”
