SPCA vaccinates animals in Chief Albert Luthuli

Children came in their numbers after school to bring their dogs for the free services offered by the SPCA.

The Benoni SPCA visited Chief Albert Luthuli on July 10, where they assisted about 200 animals and vaccinated 50 as part of their special sterilisation and vaccination campaign.

They started this campaign to try and stop the abuse of unwanted animals in the informal settlement, said SPCA manager Vicky Finnemore.

Ralph Chivavira puts on a new collar and leash for this pup.

On their visits every Wednesday, they offer:

• vaccinations

• sterilisations

• vaccination cards

• replacing of collars

• care packs of toys, shampoo and other goodies

• food packs for the dogs

• blankets for the animals

• advice on how to care for their animals at home.

Animals belonging to residents who agree to the sterilisation are taken by the SPCA and brought back the following Wednesday.

John Lofa (16) brought his two dogs for a vaccination and said he was very grateful the SPCA was there as his dogs needed vaccinations.

This eight-year-old resident brought his dog for a vaccination and left with a few goodies for his fur friend.

You can help

The SPCA is appealing to the community to assist with their campaign by sponsoring a sterilisation, which costs R550.

Sponsors receive a key ring picture of the animal they have assisted.

Every bit will help the SPCA and residents can donate smaller financial amounts or bring food, collars, blankets and toys in support of the initiative.
