Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora inducts presidents

Mike Bellingan was the MC for the evening and entertained the audience with his jokes that lightened the mood.

Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora hosted their president’s inductions on July 6 at a restaurant in Boksburg.

The room was filled with Rotarians, presidents of other clubs and guests coming to show their support.

In her toast to Rotary international District Govender Elect for district 9400, Annemarie Mostert said that Rotary is as necessary today as it was in 1905 when it first started.

“It is not grounded on fear, rivalry or suspicion; it is an eternal and indestructible rock of friendliness, tolerance and usefulness,” she said.

The first president inducted was re-elected Rotaract president Marcé van Moerkerken. In his report, he reported on the club donating blankets to families who needed them, and the visit to Ryn Park 1 where they spoilt the elderly with Easter eggs and cupcakes sponsored by the Rotary Anns.

He promised to make this year a memorable one for the current and new members.

He said that he is committed to represent the club with respect and dignity.

Marcé was also awarded with a President of the Year Certificate for what he has done in the previous year.

Outgoing president of the Rotary, Ann’s Gale Moffatt said she enjoyed her term as president and cannot believe that it is over. She then inducted Janice Carter as incoming president of the Rotary Anns.

Janice said she would like to follow this year’s theme which is “Rotary connects the world”.

“I want to connect with other Rotary groups as we are all part of district 9400, we all want to change the world and I hope everyone can follow suit,” she said.

Brian Moseley, outgoing president, addressed members and guests. He said he enjoyed his term and would have liked to achieve more in terms membership. At the end of his term there was approximately 25 members.

“I hope the new president will have more success attracting new vibrant members,” he said.

He went through the projects the club was involved in during his term which were:

• Visits to the John Wesley Community Centre.

• Arts alive and wine X.

• The blood drives, which went well and the received record pints of blood.

• Halloween walk, which he thinks will continue being a success.

• The youth exchange programme.

He said R 380 000 was raised through fund-raisers.

“Without the team I had, I would not have made it through the year,” he said.

Awards were presented to various members, and Denis Brandjies received the Rotarian of the Year award.

Incoming president Sonja Shear was inducted. She thanked everyone for coming and handed the past president a gift and said it was wonderful being part of his team.

The evening ended with dessert and fellowship.
