Five suspects tie up security guards, rob Mayfield Square

A case of business robbery was opened at the Putfontein Police Station.

Police have launched a manhunt for five suspects who broke into two shops at Mayfield Square on July 3 around midnight.

Putfontein SAPS spokesperson Const Raider Ubisi said a security guard was patrolling at the shopping centre when he was approached by two armed men.

“The two men threatened him and asked him to take them to the security control room,” said Ubisi.

“When they got to the security room with the guard, three more suspects showed up.”

Ubisi said the robbers ordered the guard who was inside the control room to call the other guards.

“When the other guards got there, the robbers tied them up with shoelaces and took one of the guards to the two stores.

“The robbers broke the CCTV cameras and took the guards’ cellphones and two-way radios,” he said.

“The suspects fled with plasma televisions, cellphones and laptops.”

Ubisi said some of the stolen items were recovered behind the shopping centre.
