The 49th Ekurhuleni Lifeline annual general meeting (AGM) took place at the organisation on June 29.

Financials prepared showed the organisation reached a profit of R50 902 for the 2019 financial year-end, as presented by outgoing treasurer Lunilda Lubbe.

Lubbe explained that a drop in profit from the previous financial year’s R220 525 was the result of an increase in salaries, which increased from R2.6-million to R2.8-m.

She added that their core funding is provided by the Department of Social Development.

“The organisation is liquid, making a profit and our assets are more than our liabilities,” confirmed Lubbe.

A motivational speech by keynote speaker David Venter inspired attendees.

In his address, Venter’s theme was that of light and hope after sharing a part of his 40-year substance abuse story.

“I believe in angels and the people at Lifeline are just like angels,” said Venter.

“They provide light and hope to the people who are battling with darkness within them.”

Keynote speaker David Venter inspired those in attendance on the day.

Also on the agenda on the day was the outgoing chairperson’s report delivered by Shaun Rajab, the director’s report by Debbie Richards, the nomination and approval of new board members, recognition of members, and dedication of volunteers and a review of the Lifeline Constitution.

Reports and discussions included points such as alternative funding (fund-raising) to assist Lifeline in becoming more independent, availability of board members with further skills development for specific portfolios, staff turnover and other questions and concerns pertaining to operations.
