Woman lies under oath, arrested for perjury

The woman was arrested on June 23 in Mayfield Extension Six, Putfontein.

A 23-year-old woman, who opened a case of assault, was arrested for perjury.

The woman was arrested on June 23 in Mayfield Extension Six, Putfontein.

Putfontein SAPS spokesperson Const Raider Ubisi said the woman reported the case at the station and said her boyfriend assaulted her and threatened her with a firearm.

“During a preliminary investigation, it was determined that the woman lied under oath,” said Ubisi.

“The woman was then re-interviewed; she confessed and admitted that she just wanted her boyfriend to be arrested.”

She was then arrested and detained at the Putfontein Police Station.

Station commander Lt Col Wellington Mathiane said this arrest will serve as a warning to those who open false cases and abuse the criminal justice system and the legislation that should protect the genuine citizens who are in need of help.

“We urge residents to refrain from reporting false cases of whatever nature,” said Mathiane.
