Soul Patrol serves up a treat at Deneys Conradie

Shane Naidoo is the chef responsible for making the meals and was assisted by volunteers from the group.

Deney Conradie elders were treated to a home-cooked meal and dessert by a group of volunteers from Soul Patrol on May 18.

Northmead resident Melissa Haripersad said the group has been feeding residents at various facilities in Benoni for the past four years and use their own money to make this possible.

“My inspiration came from watching my father do the same thing when I was growing up,” she explained.

“Every Sunday he would cook for and serve people in Villa Liza, Boksburg, and when I started making my own money I knew that is what I wanted to do too.”

Members also minister to the residents they feed as they believe people should also be filled spiritually.

Volunteers range between the ages of 20 and 57.

“The secret to what keeps us together and allows us to continue serving meals is that everyone has a serving heart and is willing to serve,” Melissa said.

Patricia Padayachie, the volunteer caretaker at Deneys Conradie, said they really appreciate Soul Patrol and thanked them for making the day so special.

“Keep up the good work,” she encouraged.

Soul Patrol welcomes financial and other donations which will enable them to continue doing just this.
