Benoni Flying Squad round-up

The community is encouraged to report any suspicious activity and information that can help with pending investigations to their local police station or 10111.

It was a successful weekend from May 10 to 12 for officers of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) who made 14 arrests, and recovered three motor vehicles and a firearm.

“In a clampdown on drugs, 11 suspects were found in possession of various quantities of drugs around Oakmore Park and Sethokga Hostel, Tembisa, Madikizela and Nkoma streets, Etwatwa, and Barcelona Extension 29,” said BFS spokesperson WO Grant Giblin.

“Dagga, cocaine and nyaope were confiscated and the suspects arrested immediately.”

Another three suspects were arrested on assault charges in First and Medley streets, Boksburg North.

In further policing, three abandoned vehicles were recovered:

• White Toyota bakkie in Lucas Steyn Road, Brakpan – stolen in Vanderbijlpark

• Black Volkswagen Golf at Vusi Musi shacks, Tembisa – hijacked in Ivory Park

• Blue/green Toyota Conquest in Pilansberg Road, Fulcrum, Springs – hijacked in KwaThema. Further investigations on the scene led to the recovery of a .357 revolver with its serial number filed off in the grass close to the vehicle.
