In Sector Three, which covers Mogoba Village and Umgababa informal settlement, rape is a threat in area.

Ubisi said there is man who targets girls between the ages of 12 and 16 who are home alone especially in the morning.

“Most parents leave for work early before their children go to school,” said Ubisi.

“This man allegedly pretends to be sent by the parent to come and get something from the home. Once he gets entry into the house he then rapes the child.”

He said parents need to teach their children not to open for strangers and they must lock the gates once the parents leave for work.

Tip: It is important to encourage children to trust their own instincts. Teach them that if someone makes them feel uncomfortable or if they feel like something’s just not right, even if they can’t explain why- they need to walk away or scream immediately.
