“While on routine patrol in Actonville, the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit got a tip-off about a man suspected of dealing in narcotics,” Kgasago said.

“The information was acted upon with the result that a male suspect found at the given address in possession of the drug khat was handcuffed.

“The swoop on the house in Pillay Street was conducted around 1.30pm whereupon 22 ziplocks of khat were uncovered.

He is expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.

In another incident, a Hyundai H100 was recovered in Daveyton a few hours after being hijacked in Benoni CBD.

“Around 4am on Friday a driver of a Hyundai H100 bakkie had his vehicle hijacked by an unknown number of armed men on Voortrekker Road,” Kgasago said.

“The driver was dumped in a veld at Daveyton.”

Kgasago said after the activation of the hijacked vehicle’s tracking system, the information was relayed to the EMPD Equestrian Unit who utilised the GPS coordinates to follow the vehicle’s movements.

“The hijacked vehicle was located at 6.30am at Mayfield in Daveyton,” he said.

“It was found abandoned and was taken to SAPS Van Ryn pound in Benoni for further investigations and safekeeping.”
