Over R5 000 raised at Pop-Up Movies fund-raiser

Funds raised go into the Good Turns account, which is currently used to improve a crèche in Kingsway and the KwaThema Stimulation Centre for Disabled Children.

Trefoil Guild, a branch of the Girl Guide movement, raised over R5 000 at their Pop-Up Movies fund-raiser on March 29 in the Benoni Library auditorium.

Pop-Up Movies is hosted on the last Friday of every month in the Benoni Library auditorium, an entry fee of R50 is charged, which includes a raffle ticket for a chance to win a prize after the movie.

Margaret Bennett, organiser of the fund-raiser, said: “It is a sad fact that our local movie outlets do not always cater for people who would like to see something other than the blockbusters on the circuit.

“Our audiences have been most appreciative of the different films we have shown so far.

“Many of them no longer wish to drive far and are much happier to come to the library for the afternoon and still get home in time for dinner,” she said.
