Two busted with dagga worth R2-million

The suspects were immediately arrested and detained at Benoni Police Station pending further investigation.

Two men, aged 32 and 38, were arrested after they were found with dagga worth R2-million on March 28 next to the Snake Road off-ramp.

The duo was arrested in a joint operation by an Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (SWAT) member and the Benoni and Germiston Flying Squad members.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said police received information about a bakkie loaded with dagga heading to Johannesburg from Swaziland.

“Members followed up on the information and the bakkie was spotted on the N12 near Snake Road with two occupants inside,” said Sekele.

“When police searched the vehicle, they found 14 bags of compressed dagga with an estimated street value of about R2-m.”

The suspects were immediately arrested and detained at Benoni Police Station pending further investigation.

They will appear at the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.

Benoni SAPS acting station commander Col Ronald Mkhonza applauded the members for their swift response in the apprehension of the suspects.
