EMPD nabs suspects for drugs, illegal firearm and ammo in Daveyton

Both suspects are expected to appear in the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court soon.

On March 21, EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit members received a tip-off about a 22-year-old suspect selling nyaope from his home in Daveyton.

“At around 9.30am the metro police investigated and the tip-off proved to be fact,” explained EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago.

“The suspect was handcuffed and his illegal wares were confiscated.

“The suspect was found with 13 packets in plastic folds valued at R2 600 and R153.50 in cash which was also confiscated.”

The suspect was charged at Daveyton Police Station for possession and dealing in illicit substances.

In another incident on Thursday, EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit members arrested a 25-year-old foreign national who was found with an unlicensed firearm with ammunition in his possession.

“The arrest and confiscation of the firearm took place at 8.15am at the suspect’s business premises in Daveyton,” said Kgasago

“The EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit had just completed the search of a suspected drug house opposite the business premises when they requested to see the businessman’s documentation.

“The businessman tried to hide the firearm which, on inspection and preliminary investigations, revealed it to be a firearm stolen in Limpopo in February 2013.

“The 9mm norinco’s serial numbers appeared to have been tampered with but still visible.

“Twenty-seven live rounds of ammunition were also seized from the suspect.

The suspect was detained at the Daveyton Police Station on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
