First graduation ceremony for Maumela Mahuwa’s film school

“I love acting and filmmaking. As an actress on a poplar soapie, I always get asked by youngsters how I got into acting,” - Maumela Mahuwa.

Renowned television actress Maumela Mahuwa, known for her role as Vho-Susan in the television soap Muvhango, has taken her passion to the classroom after launching her film school, African Academy of Cinematic Arts (AACA), two years ago.

When Mahuwa first announced this new venture she would be embarking on, many were scared for her as film schools require a lot of time and resources. Mahuwa and her partners were up for the challenge.

African Academy of Cinematic Arts teaches students the skill of storytelling and gives them an opportunity to explore the film industry as a whole.

Even though Mahuwa loves sharing her story, she always thought that it was not enough.

“I wanted to contribute more than just my story. A film school was a natural choice. Now I share skills and techniques I have learnt throughout the years in a formal setting. It is super amazing,” said Mahuwa.

The graduates will be screening the films they have made to their parents, lecturers, friends, government officials, celebrities and film and television heavyweights.

The first graduation ceremony will be taking place at Nu-Metro VIP cinema in Hyde Park, Johannesburg on April 5, 2019.
