[WATCH] Shavathon supporters show up in their numbers at Northmead Square

Spraying, donating and shaving their hair for the cause, the day saw a strong show of support from members of the public.

The Cansa Shavathon held at Northmead Square on March 2, saw scores of individuals show their support to those affected, in remission of or have died from the illness.

Farrarmere resident Donna Baker who is a survivor of brain, back and uterus cancer was present at the Shavathon with dad Patrick.

Donna showed her support to the cause by opting to shave her hair off while Patrick opted for a close shave.

“She survived despite the odds and I feel great about that,” said Patrick.

“We are here today to show our support for those still fighting against the odds.”

Beance Gorman, a volunteer at the event, said she was showing support for her mom and stepmother who were both affected by cancers.

“I think cancer sucks,” she said.

“My mom survived a brain tumour and my stepmother survived breast cancer.

“I do this in support of them and all the survivors out there.”

Joining her on the day was husband Calvin Gorman.

“My stepfather was diagnosed with testicular cancer,” he said.

Calvin said his stepfather survived cancer and he was there to show support and encouragement in the spirit of fighting against the illness, along with his wife.
