EMPD seizes firearms and ammunition

The trio, aged 27, 29 and 36, were detained at the Actonville Police Station.

EMPD Tracing Unit members apprehended three suspects, confiscated an R4 assault rifle, a revolver, two pistols and ammunition on March 1.

“An official police issue was granted before the arrest in Wattville,” said EMPD spokesperson chief superintendent Wilfred Kgasago.

“The arrests and recoveries were made along Dube Street.

“The success was due to the EMPD Tracing Unit members responding swiftly to a tip-off received from a reliable source.”

Kgasago said the three suspects were cornered and apprehended at around 5pm.

“An R4 assault rifle loaded with 17 live rounds of ammunition, a pistol with five live rounds and two loaded 9mm pistols were seized,” he further explained.

The trio, aged 27, 29 and 36, were detained at the Actonville Police Station and charged with the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

They are expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.
