The Aerotropolis Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Publicity held its first meeting on Wednesday last week at which three new board members were introduced.
Among them is Benoni couple Garth and Heather Smithard and the third board member is Esther van Zyl, who has been the manager of the chamber for 21 years.

The board members are: Beric Tempest (tourism, hospitality and advertising), Carol Ova (women and diversity), Wayne Newton (corporate and governance), Abram Mtiyane (local government), Darren Fox (youth and social media), Garth Smithard (IT), Heather Smithard (marketing and social media), Ester van Zyl (administration) and Derek Fox (chairperson and CEO).
Fox said the chamber is looking to grow businesses in Ekurhuleni.
“We also want to help to develop business owners and employees by identifying those who have the potential to operate and run their own business,” he said.
“The chamber can train, help with raising funds and coach individuals who have the potential.”
