Scouts came together for some fun in the sun

Junior and senior Cubs not too keen on swimming joined the kicker board races allowing them to gain more water confidence.

The East Rand district Cubs, Scouts and Rovers held their annual swimming gala at the Benoni Northerns Swimming Pool on January 19 where the Benoni scouts emerged victorious.

Scouts came from Springs, Brakpan, Boksburg, Kempton Park and Benoni to enjoy multiple races which included the Cub and Scout challenge any stroke, T-shirt and short relay, breaststroke, tube race, freestyle and a parents race.

The cork bobbing contest gave younger non-swimmers an opportunity to take part in the day’s event.

The highlight for the Cubs was the tube race – this includes a team of four Cubs, one had to sit inside an inflated car or truck inner tube, while the three teammates push and tow it across the pool.

At the end of the swimming gala, district commissioner of the East Rand Mike Weeks announced the overall winners of the event which saw the 1st Benoni Sea Scouts in first place, 9th Benoni in second and Boksburg in third.

Cubs, Scouts and Rovers gathered together at the swimming pool gala.
