7de Laan takes centre stage at Willowmoore High

Line producer Frances Maposa said some of the cast chose to visit the school after posting on social media ‘Who wants 7de Laan to come to their school?’ and were met with an overwhelming response from Willowmoore learners

Cast and crew of the popular Afrikaans TV series 7de Laan were at Willowmoore High School this morning (January 25) to motivate and inspire the Grade 11s and matrics of 2019, and prove that hard work is, after all, the key to success.

Met with euphoria and screams, actors Francois Lensley (Marko), André Lotter (Rickus) and Keabetswe Motsilanyane (Lesedi), among many others, received a VIP welcome.

Star-struck learners were quick to request selfies, autographs and even hugs from the actors, the most popular in the hug category being Nadia Herbst (Olivia), who willingly obliged.

A message of dedication, of putting your best foot forward and hard-work and commitment set the scene in the school hall, with jubilant youngsters praising the actors after each delivered a motivational talk.

André Lotter introduced the all-star cast and a Q&A session then sparked lively interaction.

Patrick Shai, who plays the part of Jacob on the show, was asked to share an insight into his journey as an actor in pre- and post-1994 South Africa.

Language barriers were also highlighted as cast member Keabetswe Motsilanyane encouraged the learners to embrace a multi-lingual SA that has ample opportunities for those who wish to explore its avenues.

Line producer of the show, Frances Maposa, said the reason for the visit was to highlight the art industry in South Africa, with a focus on behind-the-scenes careers.

“A lot of people are unaware of careers that they can follow behind the scenes,” explained Maposa, who added that they were all looking forward to spending time with the learners.

“Careers such as accounting, camera work, IT and lighting, to name a few, are possible in this industry.

“It is important to remember that the industry does not operate with actors only, but all the individuals who make it a success.”

Principal of Willowmoore High Lorna Sanders said the cast were fantastic in their efforts to explain their cause.

“Their message was that hard work, perseverance and dreams are very important,” she said.

“They encouraged the learners to learn as many different languages as possible and to enjoy the careers they take on in the future.”

Lotter, who grew up on the East Rand, placed an emphasis on working towards achieving success.

“Fame and recognition are a bonus but always work hard, like you are a total unknown in the industry, in order to achieve incredible feats.

“Know your worth in every season of your life and never settle for less,” he said.

Joining Lotter on the visit were co-stars Marcus Muller (André), DJ Mouton (Justin), Louis Auret (Ben) and Thabo Mhlanga (Kopano).
