Benoni’s youngsters happy on first day of ‘big school’

Say hello to some of the newbies at Ashbury College, Crystal Park Primary School and Noorderlig Gekombineerde Skool.

Many youngsters at public schools in Benoni experienced their first day of Grade One (January 9) and the City Times was there to capture this big moment in the midst of the back-to-school chaos.

The principals and deputy principals at some of the schools we visited shared some insights and wishes for the coming year.

Grade Ones had a successful first day

Ashbury College deputy principal Nicola Behrens said they welcomed 78 Grade Ones and are excited to bring out the best in each child “as the foundation starts from the bottom” and they believe that these Grade Ones will help to uphold their 100 per cent matric pass rate.

Desiree Bloxam, deputy principal of Crystal Park Primary, said they had a total of 135 Grade Ones accepted this year and are looking forward to “unleashing the best in every learner and succeeding in sporting activities”.

Noorderlig Gekombineerde Skool principal Frikkie Smith was eager to greet their 90 Grade Ones and said the school is “looking forward to giving each learner a quality education and allowing them to be the best they can be”.

Noorderlig Gekombineerde Skool and Crystal Park Primary each added an extra class to accommodate all their new Grade One learners.
