Nine drivers arrested by EMPD for drinking and driving along N12

One hundred and twenty-five vehicles were stopped and searched.

Nine drivers were arrested for drinking and driving by a force of twenty-one EMPD Specialised Services Operations section officers on December 26 when roadblocks were mounted on the N12 Putfontein turnoff and on N12 Daveyton/Kingsway exit.

The section officers comprised of freeway, K9, overloads and SWAT units, with the chief of police Isaac Jabulani Mapiyeye and director of Specialised Services Piet van Staden in attendance

The operations, which began at 4am and concluded at 10am, included stop-and-searches of over 100 vehicles and several spot summonses issued.

Six drunk drivers were apprehended on N12 Putfontein turnoff and three on N12 Daveyton exit.

Additionally, 17 spot summonses were issued for various offences.

The nine arrested drivers were detained at Benoni Police Station and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol.

All the offenders were males aged between 32 and 45.

They are expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.
