Wadia Park open for residents

Three public participation meetings were held with residents to decide on what upgrades they would like to see in the parks.

Ward 29 Clr Haseena Ismail officially opened the upgraded Wadia Park, on the corner of Wadia and Delair streets, Actonville, recently.

Residents had previously signed a petition for the upgrade of the parks in Actonville, to be put on the ward’s Integrated Development Plan, which was submitted to council.

The Lungile Mtshali Community Development Project was used for the upgrade.

This project grants each ward in the city R1-million for the community to spend on developmental projects of their choice and was launched by the Ekurhuleni metro in 2014.

There were some delays in the opening of Wadia Park and, as a result, a sandpit will be added to the upgrades within the next few months to compensate residents for the wait.

Certain residents were given keys to the park and entrusted to ensure the park is opened and closed at certain times to safeguard against vandalism.

Ismail said: “I am glad the park is developed and residents both young and old are now able to use the park for exercise and play.”

The Actonville community can contact the following numbers to report vandalism or other criminal activities at municipal parks:

• 011 458 0911 (EMPD)
