What’s in store for Miss Benoni?

The teen is also an RCL at school.

The City Times caught up with our new Miss Benoni, 17-year-old Caitlyn Wright, a Grade 11 learner at Benoni High School.

“It was the first time I’d entered Miss Benoni,” she said.

“I thought it would be an exciting experience; to meet people and have fun while getting involved with the community.

“I also wanted to create a platform for myself where I could positively influence young people.”

But the teen does not only want to influence youngsters through this platform, but she also has education on her radar as a career.

“I want to study teaching at the University of Pretoria, to make a positive contribution to the development and upbringing of the youth,” she said.

The blonde beauty’s subjects at school are English, Afrikaans, mathematics, life orientation, consumer studies, computer applications technology and biology. She also plays netball for Benoni High.

One of her teachers at Benoni High said Caitlyn’s selfless attitude towards charity and the less fortunate is commendable.

“It is a pleasure to have Caitlyn as a learner at Benoni High, her smile and positive attitude brighten up the classroom.

“Caitlyn is always willing to go the extra mile for her peers and teachers. She is an avid sports enthusiast and particularly enjoys netball.

“We believe she has a successful life ahead of her.”

Although she lives in Kempton Park, she said Benoni has a great sense of community and everyone is very actively involved.

“I believe I am a confident, dedicated and selfless person with high morals and values, which come from my upbringing,” Caitlyn said.

“Our family is very close and my parents have always supported and encouraged me to chase my dreams, regardless of how big they are.

“My sister, Brittany, who is a teacher, has been a true inspiration and my brother, Joshua, has taught me to never take myself too seriously and always have fun.”

Apart from studying teaching, Caitlyn would like to try out for Miss South Africa someday – especially after experiencing how fun pageants can be.

“Miss Benoni was truly an unforgettable experience.

“I had the privilege of meeting some amazing people and doing things I never thought I would do,” she said.

The beaut said the experience overall was amazing but the highlight was being crowned Miss Benoni 2018.

Pre-pageant events included spending a day scuba diving, a restaurant outing and visiting The Almond Tree Baby Home in Benoni, where she spent time with the babies and their caregivers.

“Throughout the competition, we had the most incredible practice evenings with endless amounts of laughter, thanks to the Rampage Modelling Agency team,” she said.

“Winning the Miss Benoni title was truly an honour.

“I felt overwhelmed with excitement and proud that I will represent Benoni over the coming year.

“Other girls and young women out there wanting to do a pageant should go for it.

“It is a fantastic experience that allows you to make some amazing new friends and have endless amounts of fun.

“It also gives you the confidence to grow as an individual and provides a platform to make a positive difference in society.”

During her reign, Caitlyn intends to host a Valentine’s ball and golf days for different charities and is also willing to help and support any local businesses in need of assistance throughout the year.
