Korsman committee takes top SANParks award

Korsman gets national recognition for good efforts

On Friday (November 16), Korsman Conservancy won a prestigious SANParks Kudu award in the category “Community Contribution: Non-profit Making Institutions”, which included a R20 000 prize.

Chairperson of Korsman Conservancy Jane Trembath explained that the award is in recognition of the committee’s environmental stewardship of Korsman Bird Sanctuary through the removal of invasive vegetation, an ecological burning programme and eliminating sewage spills into the water. The annual award is made by SANParks in collaboration with FNB and Total SA.

“We are thrilled to get this recognition, because we are a small conservancy operating on a shoestring,” Trembath said.

“Entering the awards also provides benefits and financial rewards for the entrants,” she said.

“Finalists and winners receive exposure and peer recognition by being associated with these prestigious awards.”
