The Rotary Club of Benoni held its first Interact Awards for the Liverpool Secondary Interact Club at the school recently.
Interact is a subsidiary of Rotary and is a service club for youth aged between 14 and 18.
The Liverpool Interact Club was officially launched on February 23 and has grown its membership to 140 learners.
Club youth officer Sharol Naidoo said the awards were held to honour those youths who had served the community and school.

“Actonville is a community plagued by many social ills and despite the many difficulties, the Interact club has successfully executed several projects,” she said.
“The projects included Operation Pack a Sack, Operation Cape Town, tree planting, a fund-raiser for Choc, a fund-raiser for Pink Drive and assistance at the community Heart and Soul Initiative.”

Rotary thanked Ayesha Choonara, the club coordinator at the school, for her dedication in running the club.
Certificates of membership and participation were awarded to 60 members for their active involvement in projects.
A special award for outstanding leadership was presented to learner Safwaan Vania.
Naidoo said Vania is a young man dedicated to making a difference.
“The Rotary Club of Benoni is honoured to sponsor the Liverpool Secondary Interact Club.
“Our goal is to support all youth initiatives and to see young people set up for success and becoming the agents of positive change within their communities,” concluded Naidoo.
