Truck set alight, five hurt in Lincoln Road strike action

The dispute comes as a result of a strike.

Five employees were assaulted during a dispute on Lincoln Road on November 7.

According to Actonville SAPS spokesperson Capt Pheello Mothapo, the dispute occurred when 50 employees from a company tried to intimidate their colleagues because they were not striking too.

“The striking employees pushed the gate open and damaged three trucks and a machine,” Mothapo explained.

During this, five of the employees were assaulted but it is uncertain whether they were striking or not.

Mothapo said an employee was driving a truck into the yard when one of the strikers forced him to get out of the vehicle.

“The employee then drove the vehicle into the road where it was set alight,” he explained.

“The damage amounts to about R600 000.

“A case of public violence was opened at the Actonville Police Station, but no arrests have been made,” he said.

The owner of the business was advised to open a case against the employees who damaged the four trucks and machinery.
