Meditation helps couple forgive robbers

Forgiveness is the key.

One would think that a burglary and two house robberies would leave the homeowners very concerned about the safety of the suburb they live in – but not Farrarmere residents Dawn and Arch Klein.

The Kleins were burgled in 1984 and were victims of house robberies in 2009 and 2018, but the couple has found peace in forgiving the perpetrators through meditation.

“The first incident happened just over a year after we moved into our home,” said Dawn.

“We came home and our things were stolen.”

Dawn said she walked in during the second robbery.

“I walked into my house and the young man walked towards me to show me he was unarmed, he then locked me in a room and stole whatever he wanted,” she said.

“After I heard the footsteps leaving, I called our neighbours’ helper through the window for help.”

The 81-year-old said as soon as help arrived, she just cried.

But the third incident was the most unexpected.

“I just got home and walked into our lounge to give my husband the cake the women from my group meeting had sent for him,” she explained.

“But when I turned around, two gunmen were standing with their guns pointing towards Arch and took us to one of the rooms.”

Dawn said at this time a third man entered the house.

“They took all my jewellery, including jewellery my late mom gave to me. They stole many things in our house and robbed our gardener too,” she said.

“What is still stuck in my mind is how immaculately they looked – two wore full black and one wore white.”

However, these three experiences helped the Kleins to focus on their healing process through esoteric teachings.

“Arch and I meditate. I have been studying the esoteric teachings since I was 18 years old,” Dawn said.

“My son (Jack Barford) was murdered in 1995 and his killers were never found – but I had to forgive them.

“We have to be examples to others in Africa because we are one and we need to share the love.”

It took Dawn six months to forgive her son’s killers and one month to forgive the gunmen.

“It gets easier to forgive if you just give yourself a chance,” she concluded.
