Listen: Benoni CPF to hold fundraiser fun day

CPF PRO Marinda Beukes said Halal meals will also be available at the fundraiser.

The Benoni Community Police Forum (CPF) will host its annual family fun day fundraiser on Saturday, November 3 at the Northerns sports grounds behind John Barrable Hall.

The event, which will commence at 9am, is being held in a bid to raise funds for members of the CPF who are unable to purchase CPF gear but wish to render their services to the forum.

The CPF consider themselves to be the eyes and ears of the police and work closely with SAPS to ensure safer communities prevail.

The forum assists in accident scenes and is actively involved in educating the community about awareness and safety tips considering vagrants.

“Essentially we want to assist those who want to assist the CPF,” said Benoni CPF public relations officer Marinda Beukes.

“We need funding to also assist marginalised communities, who perform foot patrols, in areas such as Lindelani in Kingsway which is our sector seven.

“We also wish to engage and empower the youth and keep them away from negative social influences by providing positive social reinforcement in communities.”

Beukes explained the day would be filled with food, fun, and stalls of all kinds including a beer tent.

“There is no entrance fee and the public has the option to book a stall to sell their goods and services on the day,” she said.

“There will be live entertainment and live demonstrations by the EMPD in conjunction with SAPS as well as a specialised area for children (Youth Corner) with strict security measures in place.

“Jumping castles, cup and saucer rides, donkey rides and even a smash top car will be part of the entertainment.”

A kids’ colouring competition, cupcake decorating, a paintball stall, a tough obstacle course for teams, as well as party games for women, will form part of the day’s activities.

A local security company will be on patrol at the event and the children’s area will have its own food stalls and entertainment with full adult supervision.

“There is so much negativity in the country and the CPF carries an enormous responsibility by putting their lives at risk to perform effective community service.

“The fun day is a first of its kind for us and it’s just a way to say ‘let’s have a fun day’ knowing full well the responsibility we carry,” said Beukes.

Members from the Benoni public are invited to attend the day and may dress according to their sector colours to show their community support.

The sector colours are:

• Sector 1, Rynfield: Black

• Sector 2, Northmead, Airfield and Farrarmere: Blue

• Sector 3, Brentwood Park: Green

• Sector 4, Western Extension: Red

• Sector 5, Lakefield: Pink

• Sector 6, Mackenzie Park: White

• Sector 7, Kingsway: Also white

Booking for the women’s party games is essential and entries close October 20.
