Watch: Hearing-impaired 12-year-old sings her heart out

Achieving academically, socially and professionally, this little girl is determined to succeed despite challenges that even include a social media stalker.

A singing superstar sensation at just 12 years old, Ché Blignaut has been making waves nationally despite her suffering from an unexpected illness which resulted in a complete hearing loss in her right ear and 60 per cent loss in her left.

The Grade Six Laerskool Rynfield learner still strives to have a promising future.

As a little girl, Ché suffered unexpectedly from an illness that resulted in impaired hearing after an incorrect dosage of medication to treat the illness was administered to her, causing severe nerve damage.

Medical experts explained due to the nerve damage, Ché’s ability to determine tonal pitch would be hampered – to which she replied, “The only disability is negativity”.

Determined to live for the art of music, she continued to pursue her passion.

Ché has been signed to a record label and has taken the stage by force by performing at events such as Krone in front of thousands of people.

She has also performed alongside the likes of Kurt Darren, Nadine and Juanita du Plessis, just to name a few.

“Don’t stop dreaming because no one can determine your future,” said Ché.

“It’s up to you to do it for yourself.”

Her mom, Chantel, explained Ché’s ability to sing was something that was always present but because of the diagnosed condition she initially had her doubts for medical purposes.

“I didn’t want her to sing because I became so protective and thought even the smallest exposure to loud sounds would only lessen her hearing ability,” said Chantel.

“She soon made me realise she was born to sing and we are so incredibly proud of her.”

The proud mother explained the stardom of her young daughter has posed some challenges.

“Ché is the youngest ambassador ever of a prominent law firm in Bedfordview and they handle and manage all the legal aspects she is and may be involved in,” said Chantel.

“Ché is on most social media platforms and this has attracted attention that is sometimes unwarranted.”

Chantel also made mention about a case of a stalker that has been escalated to court.

According to the mom, the man has been harassing Ché on social media by creating alias profiles in order to gain access to her platforms.

The man allegedly showed up to an event claiming he is her manager and forbade event management from allowing the little girl to perform.

Chantel explained in spite of being exposed to so many challenges from such a young age, her daughter coped relatively well with all the pressure and is still able to perform exceedingly well academically.
