Listen: Ladies tea to raise funds for BCW carport

The BCW renders holistic social services for up to 400 foster children and has a child and youth centre that accommodates 20 children.

Benoni Child Welfare (BCW) hosted its annual ladies tea at the Morris Nestdat Hall, at the Benoni Lake Club recently

The event was held to raise funds to build a carport for the 16-seater Nissan NV350 vehicle the organisation recently received as a donation from Imperial Managed Solutions Southern Africa Cross Border and Imperial Nissan East Rand Mall.

Women, and a handful of men who work for BCW, indulged in a morning of treats, including beverages, chocolates, cupcakes, teas and coffees, savoury snacks and a guest speaker.

Guest speaker Monica Groome, an image consultant for Chata Romono, did a presentation on image perception.

“Every woman and man here today is perfect as they are,” said Groome.

“How you look is how you feel” was the message she placed the most emphasis on as she spoke about the importance of colour.

Colour, according to her, has the potential to influence, develop and enhance hair, make-up and clothing.

Groome also advised the group on how to create 45 outfits from just 15 items and said recent studies proved people wear just 20 per cent of the clothing in their wardrobe.

Director of BCW Elsie Labuschagne said team building was incorporated into the event as all staff were encouraged to make an outfit for the day.

“We wanted to up-skill the staff so they all played a part in the production of some of the beautiful clothes seen here today.

“Funds raised from the event and the two raffles we have on offer will be used to build the carport, said a cheerful Labuschagne.
