Watch: Fun day at Arbor Primary a success

Jumping castles, a gladiator course, water slides, food stalls, craft markets, a tea garden and more were just some of what the crowds could get stuck in.

Arbor Primary School, in Northmead, hosted a Family Fun Day to usher in spring on Saturday (September 1).

The day, which was open to the public, was one of fun, food and delight for all.

Grizelle Oelofse, one of the main organisers of the fun day, and Arbor principal Patrick Arentsen, said that proceeds raised from the fun day would be used towards the school obtaining a new minibus.

Netcare 911 made their presence known at the event by doing live rescue demonstrations.

Nick Dollman, media liaison and rescues officer for Netcare 911, performed a routine abseiling from the first floor of the school building.

He explained that the ropes used in a recuse mission differ to that of climbing as there are two ropes involved and both ropes are able to hold a mass of up to 2 400kg each.

The SANBS was also present on the day and did a blood drive in commemoration of Northmead resident Daniella Snyman, who died earlier this year after a battle with acute myeloid leukaemia.

Snyman was a past learner of Arbor Primary.

Known as The Daniella Snyman Blood Drive, those able to donate at the family fun day visited the SANBS stand.

Terrance Pillay, SANBS donor relations practitioner said the blood service wanted to thank the Benoni community for supporting the Daniella Snyman Blood Drive.

“The aim is to collect 100 units of blood today.

“Each unit can save up to three lives which means with 300 units we can save 300 patients,” he said.

On Monday (September 3) Pillay confirmed that 110 donors donated on the day and from that they were able to bleed 90 units of blood.

He added that those who want to donate blood are welcome to visit the SANBS in Benoni.

They can be contacted on 011 897 4955.
