Five stolen vehicles recovered

Several arrests were made too.

Between August 22 and 23, the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) arrested three suspects for drug-related charges and recovered five stolen and hijacked vehicles.

On Wednesday (August 22), in Benoni CBD, officers arrested suspects in possession of drugs.

“’Cat and rocks” (drugs) were confiscated and the suspects arrested,” said BFS WO Grant Giblin.

In further policing on the same day, a white Mazda Drifter, stolen in Benoni, was recovered abandoned in Republic Road, Ivory Park.

Giblin said on Thursday (August 23) officers arrested a man in possession of a white Ford Ranger Wildtrak in Tom Jones Street, which was allegedly stolen in Norwood.

“A further three abandoned vehicles were recovered – a black Mercedes in Dawn Park which was hijacked in Mondeor, a white Hyundai H100 in Kingsway which was hijacked in Springs and a white Ford Ranger at Square@Midstream, Olifantsfontein, which was stolen in Lyttleton,” he said.

The four suspects, linked to these cases are aged between 20 and 43 and are scheduled to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of possession of drugs and possession of stolen motor vehicles.

* The Benoni Flying Squad arrested 10 people over the weekend (August 24 to 26), two of whom were arrested near Turton Street, Daveyton, for being in the possession of dagga.

“The suspects were arrested immediately and the dagga confiscated,” said BFS WO Grant Giblin.

“They are scheduled to appear in the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court soon.”
