Boyfriend doused girlfriend with paraffin and set her alight

The woman is being treated at a local hospital.

A case of attempted murder has been opened at Putfontein SAPS after a 28-year-old woman was allegedly burnt by her boyfriend.

The incident occurred on August 31 at Bagdad squatter camp near Mayfield, Putfontein around 11pm.

Putfontein SAPS spokesperson Constable Justice Ramaube said it is still unknown what led the man to set his girlfriend alight with paraffin.

The 32-year-old man was arrested on September 1 at his place of residence in Putfontein.

The arrest was made by Constable Casey Machete and Constable Thulani Radebe.

He was detained at the Daveyton Police Station and will appear at the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.

Putfontein SAPS station commander Lieutenant Colonel Wellington Mathiane applauded Machate and Radebe for a job well done in arresting the suspect.
