Donate blood and help a legacy live on

Celebrate Daniella's legacy.

In commemoration of Northmead resident Daniella Snyman, who died earlier this year, the SANBS will host a blood drive at Arbor Primary School on September 1.

Snyman, who died at the age of 21, was a Benoni blood donation recipient, ambassador and guest speaker who was committed to motivating the community to donate blood and save a life.

Daniella will be missed for her compassion

“Daniella was the founder of the Annual Arbor Primary Blood Drive that started in 2014,” said SANBS Benoni public relations practitioner Terrance Pillay.

“This drive currently holds the record with 236 units, the most units collected in Benoni at a single drive.”

This drive, called The Daniella Snyman Blood Drive, will take place on the Saturday from 9am to 3pm and will be hosted in celebration of her passion, love and commitment to helping saves lives.

In August last year, The City Times spoke with Daniella who was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia for the second time in four years.

Daniella attended Arbor Primary and Boksburg High School.

Her mother, Dawn Viljoen, said Daniella had two stem cell transplants after her relapse.

In a previous article, Viljoen said Daniella was a cupcake – she was passionate about children, she loved being on stage and performing.

“Daniella’s love for helping others by donating blood and promoting blood donation has always been a big part of her life,” Pillay said.

“She was always helping other patients in need and ensuring the Benoni branch had sufficient blood supply at all times.

“Help us let this legacy live on.”

There is a R10 entrance at the gate.

Blood donor requirements:

• Weigh 50kg or more

• Be 16 years or older

• Lead a sexually safe lifestyle

• Must have eaten in the last four hours

“Blood cannot be manufactured – donated blood is the only thing that can help save cancer patients, premature babies and others who need transfusions to live,” Pillay explained.

“In less than an hour you can become a hero to people you will never meet, but whose lives you have changed forever.”
