Sixth suspect in Masilela case arrested in Benoni

The case was postponed.

Mashudu Malema made his first appearance in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on Monday (August 21) and will reappear on August 27 in connection with the murder of Rhythm City actor Dumisani Masilela.

Malema was allegedly the sixth suspect to be arrested in connection with the shooting of the actor during an attempted hijacking in August last year.

On August 2, the suspects involved allegedly hijacked a Jeep Wrangler in Daveyton. Later that day, the same vehicle was allegedly used in the attempted hijacking of Masilela in Tembisa, during which he was shot.

The Rhythm City actor drove himself to Tembisa Hospital where he died from his injuries the next day (August 3).

Malema is to appear for a formal bail application on August 27.

The other accused will appear in the Pretoria High Court for trial from October 8 to 19. Malema will appear on the same charges as three of the accused who previously appeared in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court, Sfundo Nkosi (29), Bongani Masombuka (34) and Khumbudzo Mukhuba (27), and are awaiting trial.

They are all facing charges of murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances and attempted hijacking.
