The operations will be ongoing this month.

This Women’s Month, police women stood together and arrested 30 drivers during roadblocks that were held between August 3 and 7.

“Ladies in uniform from the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD), Gauteng Traffic Police and National Traffic Police mounted roadblocks in Benoni and Katlehong between sunset and sunrise,” said EMPD media liaison officer, Kobeli Mokheseng.

Excluding the 30 drivers who were arrested on Friday on the N12 freeway at Putfontein, 10 fines were issued for various offences.

“Between 5pm and 11pm 30 drivers were arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol,” Mokheseng said.

“The arrested drivers were detained at various Benoni police stations for driving while under the influence of alcohol.

“They were expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court.”

Mokheseng said this is an ongoing operation for the duration of August and possibly, beyond.
