Daveyton attacks: Swift arrests, more to follow

More police officers will be deployed in the area and in the schools.

Three people have been arrested in connection to the mob justice attack which left one person dead and four hospitalised in Daveyton on August 15.

Gauteng Community Safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane confirmed the arrests and said more arrests are likely.

“We are going to arrest more people who are involved in mob justice,” said Nkosi-Malobane.

“Some of them are on the run, but we’re aware of their whereabouts and we’ll ensure that we arrest them.”

Nkosi-Malobane and Gauteng MEC for Education Panyaza Lesufi visited Unity Secondary School, in Daveyton, today (August 17).

This comes after a group of people went to the school with one of the suspected gang members on Wednesday‚ who they had kidnapped, so that he could point out a learner who is also allegedly part of the gang.

They didn’t find the alleged gang member at the school and the kidnapped 19-year-old was then necklaced near the school.

Lesufi condemns the disruption of schooling and urged the community to remain calm and allow the law to take its course.
