Mother arrested for child neglect in Etwatwa

The woman will remain in custody until her next appearance on August 28.

A 44-year-old mother, who was arrested for child neglect, was denied bail at the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court on August 8.

The woman will remain in custody until her next appearance on August 28.

She was arrested by the Benoni SAPS Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit on August 7.

Etwatwa SAPS spokesperson Captain Ramothakhi Maqabe said the woman reported her seven-year-old son missing on July 31.

“Upon further investigation, it was found that the mother left her son with the stepfather who also neglected the child for about seven weeks,” said Maqabe.

“The biological father was informed about the child’s condition and he reported the matter at the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court and he was granted temporary custody of the child.”

Etwatwa SAPS station commander Colonel Molatelo Maoto applauded Constable Ramadimetsa Modiba for a job well done with the investigation.
