It was a successful operation for the EMPD, in conjunction with SAPS members, after calming an angry crowd and making arrests in Daveyton, recently.
“A special operation planned for Friday (July 27) by EMPD and SAPS members was temporarily derailed,” explained EMPD spokesperson Wilfred Kgasago after they were informed that a crowd of more than 500 residents were en-route to a house in the area in which they claimed witchcraft was practised and that body parts were stored.

“The law enforcers, who were supposed to commence with the operation at 4pm and finish at midnight, had to redirect their attention to the crowd which was moving to a large house under renovation,” Kgasago explained.
“A contingent of 30 police officers proceeded to where the crowd was dissuaded from destroying the house.
“The crowd was convinced to disperse peacefully after the officers searched the house and found nothing untoward inside.”
At around 8pm the police resumed their special operation by mounting a roadblock at the intersection of Heald and DM Mthimunye streets.
“We conducted high visibility patrols that were coupled with stop-and-searches within Daveyton,” Kgasago said.
“Three drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and detained at Daveyton Police Station.
“And 118 fines were issued to other motorists in connection with defects on their vehicles and documentation.”
