Actonville celebrates Madiba centenary

A day to remember by the school.

Actonville Primary School celebrated the centenary year of Nelson Mandela on July 27.

“Parents and learners were invited to showcase an invention, a talent or an innovation and this was presented in each class whereby the winner was awarded a medal,” said Venessa Moodley, principal of the school.

“The day progressed with an energetic class picnic with educators and learners bonding by sharing lunches.”

The day also consisted of several motivational speakers and therapists in every class who shared their expertise and knowledge with learners and educators alike.

“Learners were also involved in writing poetry based on a tribute to Madiba – these collations will be used in compiling a Madiba-centennial booklet.”

Moodley said the highlight of the day was when the learners dressed in the colours of the South African flag, proceeded to the assembly area and meticulously formed the South African flag using the colours of their T-shirts.

“Thank you staff, student government body, motivational speakers, community and most important our little treasures. Just an ordinary teaching day turned into a glorious event,” Moodley said.
