Watch: Art Alive exhibition was well received in Benoni.

Fellowship, food, fun and art under a winter night's sky

The Art Alive exhibition took place at the centre in Northmead last week (July 25-28), which saw Art Alive and Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora team up to raise funds for charitable causes.

A total of R21 960 was raised through the sale of “charity squares” artwork with proceeds from ticket sales still needing to be tallied up at the time of going to print.

The public could view paintings daily from 5pm to 10pm. The entrance fee included food, refreshments and the chance to cosy up next to a bonfire.

Eloise Pearce, one of the attendees at the exhibition, said that the talent of the artists exhibiting was stunning.

“The talent is amazing.

“You can see the growth every year and it’s excellent,” she said.

The event was enjoyed by the young and the old with many saying they would definitely support the event again.

“It’s really good to be here,” said visitor Hannelie Theron.

“It is the second year that we’re attending, and will come back again every year,” she said on behalf of herself and partner Justin Theron.

According to Art Alive owner, Elaine Marx, 122 charity squares and 80 paintings were sold over the course of the exhibition.

Director of community service for the Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora Gail Wilson said they enjoyed working with Art Alive.

“The partnership between the Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora and Art Alive has been totally awesome.

“Elaine Marx and her talented students are amazing, and I hope our relationship goes from strength to strength.

“It is a pleasure working with Elaine,” said Wilson.

The proceeds will be handed over to the Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora to be used in their efforts to aid organisations in need of funding, such as the John Wesley Community Centre and Ikhaya Da Luz, in Benoni Agricultural Holdings.
