Three sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in Benoni

The trio is serving their sentences at Modderbee Prison.

Thembinkosi Mngomezulu (27), Sthembiso Myeza (24) and Zimane Nompoko (25) were sentenced to 10 years imprisonment at the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on July 18 for tampering with essential infrastructure.

The trio was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Putfontein SAPS spokesperson Constable Justice Ramaube said the three men were arrested for stealing copper cables at Transnet Sentrarand on October 4, last year.

“The arrest was made in conjunction with a private security company after police received a tip-off,” said Ramaube.

Putfontein SAPS branch commander Captain Rajanderan Perumal Chetty and station commander Lieutenant Colonel Wellington Mathiane commended Sergeant Phillemon Magwaza for a job well done with the investigation.

Mngomezulu, Myeza and Nompoko are serving their sentences at Modderbee Prison.
