Weekend successes for Benoni Flying Squad

Upholding the law

Two suspects are scheduled to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on a charge of possession of a hijacked vehicle.

At around 6am on July 30, Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) members and the Ekurhuleni Tactical Team followed up on information in Cloverdene.

“Officers came across two men from Tembisa in a blue Renault Sandero, in Equator Street,” said BFS spokesperson WO Grant Giblin.

“Upon further investigation, it was found that the registration, VIN and engine numbers of the vehicle had been tampered with.

“Officers traced the original VIN number and discovered the vehicle had been hijacked in Duduza in May.”

Giblin said the two men were arrested.

In further Flying Squad news, two other hijacked vehicles were found abandoned over the weekend.

A silver BMW, stolen in Northmead, was recovered in Benoni CBD and a white Isuzu truck, stolen next to the N1 Grasmere toll plaza while transporting an undisclosed amount of flat screen televisions and two-plate stoves, was found at Holfontein N12 off-ramp towards Etwatwa.

“The driver of the Isuzu alleges he was drugged.

“Investigations continue into tracing suspects in these cases,” Giblin said.
