Willowmoore High brings smiles to the elderly

The elderly enjoyed some cake and tea while being entertained by the learners.

It was a day of love and pampering for the elderly at Willowmoore High School on Mandela Day (July 18).

The school hosted over 40 people from Eddy House, Pauline Davis Court and the Salvation Army.

Members of the Benoni Magistrate’s Court also attended and brought fruit packs for the elderly to show their appreciation.

Rose Maja, from iThemba Rape and Trauma Centre, said on this day they hoped to make the elderly feel special.

“We want them to enjoy the day, they are alive and well and we want to pamper them,” she said.

Learners at the school served tea and snacks and socialised with them to grasp their wisdom.

“We had about 21 people from Eddy House, 10 from Pauline Davis and 10 from the Salvation Army,” said an educator at the school, Sharol Naidoo.

A learner, Tranelle Madurai, also whipped out her baking skills to make 65 cupcakes for the elderly, each with Nelson Mandela’s face on to commemorate the day.

Beanies were handed out to the elderly visitors who also enjoyed soup and bread to warm them up.

Mugs were given to each guest as a token of appreciation and remembrance of the day, along with treats from the school.
