Pageant finalist does her bit for the community

Farrarmere resident asks for help as she helps others.

Farrarmere’s Miss Eagle SA (Mesa) semi-finalist Kehrisha Pillay is in the process of writing a book for young girls, but first jumped in to donate blankets to Colin House.

“I handed over some blankets and took treats for the children,” Pillay said, who also took the opportunity to interact with the children.

Pillay explained the progress of girls into womanhood has always been close to her heart, which is why she is competing in this pageant – to prove any girl can do it.

“The youth need to realise that society should not shape their frame of thought and how and who they accept,” she told the City Times when featured in the Know Your Benoni.

“In my teen years I always cared about what people thought and who would accept me, but Mesa is a platform that allows us to educate and encourage young girls to believe in not only themselves but in one another.”

Her book contributes to her goal of helping youngsters.

“The title of the book I’m writing is Confessions of a Real Girl,” the 21-year-old said.

“It is a fictional novel, based on a girl who is the daughter of a chief and who was not recognised because she was a woman.

“However, that changes as she is given the honour of being the next chief of the tribe.”

The book will be published later this year.

Pillay requests the community to help make her dream come true in the Mesa pageant by SMSing Kehrisha to 35334 (SMS costs R3).
