DA Gauteng spokesperson for Community Safety Michele Clark has stated the police are not doing enough to curb cash-in-transit (CIT) heists.
She said the party is deeply concerned about the rise in CIT heists in Gauteng, the most recent attack having taken place in Atlas Road, Boksburg, on Thursday (July 5).

“It is clear that cash-in-transit heists are becoming more violent, as these criminals become more desperate,” she said.
“Questions need to be asked about who is supplying them with military-grade explosives and ammunition.
“The manner in which these attacks have occurred indicates that the perpetrators have access to inside information.”
Clark added that, despite Minister of Police Bheki Cele announcing that strict measures are in place to reduce heists, police intelligence on the matter is “weak at best”.
The DA called on Gauteng Premier David Makhura, Gauteng SAPS and the Minister of Police to work together to curb CIT heists and reduce causes of the attacks.
